This course is intended to help junior year high school students develop their skills in the areas of English literature and grammar. Topics covered will include: parts of a story (plot, characters, setting, etc.), literary elements (theme, mood, tone, dialogue, etc.), reading strategies to increase comprehension, and the proper mechanics of writing and grammar. American Literature is examined from 2000 BC to 1800. Several essays, including a compare and contrast essay, are required. There are 15 lessons, a midterm exam, and a final.
