This course is intended to help junior year high school students develop their skills in the areas of English literature and grammar. Topics covered will include: parts of a story (plot, characters, setting, etc.), literary elements (theme, mood, tone, dialogue, etc.), reading strategies to increase comprehension, and the proper mechanics of writing and grammar. Completion of a research paper is required. American Literature is examined from 1800 to the Present. Several essays and a research paper are required. There are 15 lessons, a midterm exam, and a final.
