This laboratory course investigates the physical world, and enables the student to learn through discovery. The major instructional areas are the Earth and universe: Earth and its motions; materials of the Earth’s surface; atomic structure; history of the Earth; Earth’s envelope of water; Earth’s atmosphere; forces that sculpt the Earth’s surface; the limits of the Earth; and the solar system. Students use the scientific method in scientific investigations, read maps, use the periodic table, and understand how minerals are classified.
